Collagen is a protein that gives your skin elasticity, firmness, and a youthful appearance.
Collagen production begins to naturally decline in the mid to late 20s, producing 1% less collagen each year. This is called internal aging. The decline is subtle.
By age 40 collagen production has significantly declined leading to noticeable changes in skin tone, texture and firmness. The skin begins to sag, and wrinkles become more prominent. By the 50s, a drop in estrogen levels leads to more dramatic loss of skin elasticity, and more and deeper wrinkles. Sun damage, pollution and genetics also impact how your skin matures.
The visible signs of aging include wrinkles, deep furrows and prominent nasolabial (nose to mouth) creases, jowls, marionette lines (mouth to chin folds), laugh lines, wrinkles around the eyes and hollowed out temples and cheeks. Radiesse temporarily adds volume to help smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, while safely promoting the growth of your own collagen for long-lasting results. This is accomplished through advanced microsphere technology. The calcium microspheres stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen over time. As the collagen in replaced, the calcium is absorbed by the body, contributing to a natural improvement in skin texture and elasticity. Results are visible immediately, but full effects can take a week.

Radiesse is a quick office procedure using fine needles and requires no downtime. Side effects may include bruising, swelling, redness, itching and discomfort that resolves within hours or days. Effects can last up to 24 months, depending on your metabolism and the areas treated.
Anyone concerned with facial aging, deep wrinkles, skin laxity or desire more prominent facial contours or rejuvenated hands may be a good candidate. Not everyone is a good candidate. Patients with severe allergies, those who take certain medications, and patients with certain medical conditions may not be good candidates.
